The year is 1429. France is in political and religious turmoil as members of the royal family battle for the crown. But one peasant girl emerges bearing a message that wins the hearts of her countrymen and the throne for her king. This extravagantly produced all-star movie starring Milla Jovovich, John Malkovich, Faye Dunaway and Dustin Hoffman presents a thought-provoking perspective on Joan as a feisty fanatic, in spite of the usual filmmaker historical inaccuracies.

  1. Well-acted and great costumes. Some people complain that the movie makes Joan appear insane or fanatical, but I thought that might be realistic, and Milla Jovovich certainly pulled it off well. Anyone that driven probably WAS fanatical. I thought the extended Devil tempting her in her cell was aesthetically annoying as well as historically inaccurate, as was the rape of her sister at the beginning. Not as historically accurate as the Leelee Sobieski movie, but watchable and shorter than all the other Joan films.
