2003 Discovery Channel 5-part series hosted by Lucy Lawless, star of the long-running Xena: Warrior Princess TV show. Each episode highlighted a famous woman warrior: Joan of Arc, Grace O’Malley, Lozen, Wang Cong’r (the “real” Mulan), and Boudica.  The Joan episode is shot on location in France and includes interviews with several respected Joan scholars. Lawless’s focus on Joan’s series of transformations from a peasant girl into a warrior and her discussion of Joan’s image provides a fresh perspective.  Lots of re-enactment, not just talking heads, and some fun moments with Lucy Lawless.

  1. She inspired a play by George Bernard Shaw and a novel by Mark Twain.
The best film about her trial is silent film The Passion of Joan of Arc 1928.
    Brilliant performance by Renee Falconetti.
