New Orleans Area Libraries Card Details

Everything here is either free online to all or free through the New Orleans Public Library to area library card holders

Public library cards are free and awesome. You should have one.

This site also offers links to Joan materials in the Jefferson Parish and St. Bernard Parish systems

Jefferson Parish and St. Bernard Parish residents can also check out New Orleans Public Library materials*

Through the links on this site you can use your library card account number to:

  1. Check out and download e-books and downloadable audiobooks instantly.
  2. Get free delivery! Request that items available at other New Orleans branches be delivered to your home branch for convenient pick-up. (You can also return books to any convenient branch.)
  3. Place a hold or get on the waiting list for popular items that are currently checked out to other people

New Orleans Public Library: Library cards are free to New Orleans residents. You can apply online and then show up at your local branch to pick up your card, or you can do the whole process at your local branch. You will need to show proof of Orleans Parish residency.

Partner Libraries: New Orleans library card holders can check out materials from a Jefferson Parish library by applying for a Jefferson Parish library account and vice versa. Just bring your library card (in good standing) to any branch in the other system, plus an ID, to get set up with an account. Once you have the account, you will be able to use both library systems and will have an account number for each library which you can use to check out e-books, request, etc. St. Bernard Parish and Orleans Parish Libraries have a similar arrangement except that they need to show proof of residency & ID, not just a library card & ID to get the account set up the first time.  Reciprocal borrowers have more limitations than home library borrowers on the number of items they can check out at a time.

Note: The Krewe de Jeanne d’Arc will focus its limited resources on building up the Joan of Arc collection at the New Orleans Public Library only, but for the convenience of our Jefferson and St. Bernard Parish library users we included links to the materials in those libraries whenever those libraries carry copies of the materials on this site.
